This page gathers the stones in our collection whose origin is recorded as Nigeria, a West African source best known to gemmologists for its tourmaline and garnet production. What appears here reflects that reputation: Paraiba Tourmaline, Rubellite Tourmaline, Green Tourmaline and Pink Tourmaline, alongside Spessartite Garnet.
The tourmalines illustrate how a single mineral family can present entirely different characters. Copper-bearing tourmaline of the Paraiba type owes its electric blue to green hues to traces of copper, sometimes with manganese, and is prized for a luminous, almost glowing saturation. Rubellite draws its red to purplish pink from manganese, while green and pink tourmalines offer gentler, more classical colours. Spessartite garnet, also manganese-coloured, brings a warm orange to orange-red with notably high brilliance and dispersion.
When choosing between them, weigh saturation against tone: deeper stones read richer but return less light, while brighter material shows more life. Tourmaline is strongly pleochroic, so consider how a stone is cut relative to its crystal axis, and examine clarity closely — rubellite and copper-bearing tourmaline are frequently included by nature.
