This page gathers the stones in our collection whose rough was sourced from the African continent. Africa is one of the world's principal suppliers of beryl, garnet and tourmaline, and that is reflected in the varieties assembled here: Aquamarine, Spessartite Garnet, Green Tourmaline, Rubellite Tourmaline and Pink Tourmaline.
Each behaves differently in the hand. Aquamarine, a beryl coloured by traces of iron, runs from pale sky to deeper sea-blue and is prized for clarity and calm, even colour. Spessartite is a manganese aluminium garnet, giving warm orange to orange-red tones with high dispersion and no cleavage. The tourmalines belong to a single family but read as three distinct stones: green from iron and chrome traces, rubellite in pink-red to raspberry, and pink tourmaline in softer, lighter registers.
When choosing between them, weigh colour saturation against size — larger stones generally show colour more deeply — along with clarity expectations for the variety, cut quality and how each will be worn. Tourmaline and garnet are well suited to rings with sensible settings; aquamarine rewards open, light-admitting cuts. Ask us for detail on treatment and certification for any individual stone.
