This page gathers the stones in our collection whose origin is recorded as Namibia. Both varieties found here belong to the garnet group, and both are prized for saturated colour and lively light return: Demantoid Garnet and Spessartite Garnet.
Demantoid is the green andradite garnet, distinguished by exceptional dispersion — the property that breaks white light into spectral flashes. In well-cut stones this produces a fire that is unusual among coloured gems, and it is most visible in lighter to medium tones where the body colour does not mask it. Spessartite is the manganese-bearing garnet, ranging from vivid orange to reddish orange, with high refractive index and a characteristic brightness that suits both step and brilliant cuts.
Choosing between them is largely a question of palette and scale. Demantoid tends to occur in smaller sizes, so clarity and cutting precision carry particular weight; spessartite is more often available in bolder proportions. In both, examine the stone in several lighting conditions and judge the evenness of colour across the crown before considering any other factor.
